It takes a village to raise a ton

What do a cow, half a car and two grand pianos have in common? They each weigh about 2,000 pounds. On November 8, we need your help to raise 2,000 pounds — that’s one ton — of non-perishable items for the Bonita Springs Assistance Office. The people there will use our donations to give a hand up to our community’s families and individuals in need.

For more than 15 years, the Bonita Chamber has partnered with the Bonita Springs Assistance Office at our annual Harvest Night event to collect donations in time for the holidays. Last year, we collected 1,777 pounds of non-perishables, which is amazing.

You can be a part of this year’s record-breaking, one-ton event. Drop off non-perishable donations at the Bonita Chamber — 25071 Chamber of Commerce Drive in Bonita Springs — any Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

You can drop off your donations between now and November 8, or you can come to Harvest Night itself and be a part of the festivities. Give us a call at (239) 992-2943 to buy your ticket, and we’ll see you at the event from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Everglades Wonder Gardens.

Thank you for sharing any donations you can with this great cause. Every item will help someone in this community who can use a helping hand.

Items the Assistance Office needs the most include:

• Maseca corn flour
• Pasta sauce (jars)
• Macaroni & cheese
• Cooking oil
• Healthy snacks

• Juice beverages (all sizes)
• Jellies and jams
• Instant potatoes
• Corn muffin/cake mixes
• Ketchup

• Mustard
• Mayonnaise
• Shampoo
• Bar soaps
